Donté K. Hayes is an American artist (b. 1975) working in Cliffwood, New Jersey, and Atlanta, Georgia.
He draws inspiration from hip-hop culture, science fiction, and histories and traditions of the African diaspora.
Through these influences, he projects a vision of a future which critiques the historical and cultural events of the African Diaspora and the distinct black experience of the Middle Passage, while also exploring more general social issues. He works with clay as a historical and creative base material that reveals the process and the markings of the artist. The ceramic objects that he creates are seen as vessels that make “symbolic allusions to the black body.” Hayes considers himself as an activist giving voice to marginalized people.
