To Be Awake With You, 2015

Great Jones Alley

Tracey Emin was born in London in 1963.

An important aspect of her practice is transferring her texts and drawings to prints.  This monoprint coincides with her newest series of figurative works which illustrate her shifting sensibilities of passion, love and permanence.

The works in this print and drawing series are classical yet also deeply personal. Some of the images recall Michelangelo’s late “prisoner” sculptures where the figures appear to be struggling to free themselves from stone. The influence of Courbet, Manet, Rodin, and Egon Schiele can also be seen.  Themes of provocation and sexuality are apparent in many compositions while others speak of unrequited love, suffering, longing, loneliness, and desire.
