Tamara Mendels was born in Sydney, Australia in 1982.

Mendels is a young, emerging artist working with contemporary materials. Her creative process begins with her iPhone. Using a drawing application on her phone called ‘Finger Paint’, she completes small finger drawings which function as rough drafts for her larger resin and enamel paintings on canvas. Technology becomes a crucial part of her artwork as she explores the relationship between handmade work and the quick, ephemeral ‘finger paintings’ made with her iPhone. Mendels is paving the way for a new era in painting where technology becomes a significant part of the creative process.

Her work has been exhibited in Australia and the U.S. including a group exhibition at the Albio Street Gallery in Sydney and a solo exhibition at the Catinca Tabacaru Gallery in New York.
