Stoyan Dechev
Disposable 2013
Sagaponack
Stoyan Dechev was born in 1978 in Smolyan, lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Dechev’s projects combine sculpture, drawing, installation, animation and video. In an attempt to understand and react to contemporary events, his work often encompasses existential, political, historical and scientific subject matters.
Disposable is a series of drawings, objects and sculptures – things for everyday use, connected with the author’s life. He enlarges the object and changes its function from being unimportant waste to an artifact with aesthetic value, questioning key notions of beautiful and the ugly, the valuable and the unnecessary, etc.
