Ryan Mcginness
Figure Drawing in Neon (Christy, Blue). 2014
Sagaponack
Ryan McGinness was born in Virginia Beach, VA in 1972 and now lives and works in New York, NY.
His paintings, prints, sculpture and installations incorporate the graphic elements of public signs, corporate logos, and art history. The fusion of influences establishes McGinness’ own iconographic language as a multi-faceted reflection of contemporary visual culture. Working directly from nude models, McGinness approaches his neon figure drawings in the same manner in which he creates his signature undulating and layered icons. He begins with sketches, and refines those drawings down into their basic and most essential forms. With their graceful lines and gentle curves, the drawings are less about an individual woman and more about presentations of universal womanhood.
