Kianja Strobert (1980) is a contemporary abstract artist who lives and works in Hudson, New York.  Her mixed-media sculptures and works on paper share a coarseness of texture and an expressive line. Often working in series, Strobert strives to maintain a similar rhythm throughout each work by implementing similar color palettes and visual motifs, as in a recent series that combined sculptures of concrete blocks and terracotta shards with bold abstractions on paper rendered in vibrant autumnal hues. Her delicate and colorful works reveal a preoccupation with assuring that every edge of the composition commands an illusion of depth, perspective, light, and motion.

James Kalm strolled into the opening of Kianja Strobert's debut show with this gallery moments before the doors closed. Strobert is a Yale graduate and is presenting two bodies of work, paintings and collage on paper, and floor bound sculptural pieces that employ pottery shards and threads of neon tubing.
