Michael Dopp
Untitled (Ghost Grid, Purple), 2014
Sun Capital Office
Michael Dopp was born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1978 and now lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Working mainly in acrylic on canvas or fabric, Michael Dopp paints grid-like formations and abstract, geometric forms, probing the tension between positive and negative space and void. Primarily working in black and white, Dopp occasionally includes color. His spare visual language is the product of both planned designs and embracing the accidental. He works on premeditated works and spontaneous sketches simultaneously. “Somehow, he says, “maybe just through an imagined osmosis, these two different methods or processes play off each other and inform each other.”
