Michael Bauer was born in 1973 in Erkelenz, Germany and now lives in New York.

Michael Bauer’s work creates figurative, layered composites from doodled elements, grey and muddy forms, traces of recognizable features such as eyes and heads, and unexpected areas with color. All his paintings are fundamentally portraits, but they are portraits of memories: personal inspirations, memories of the past, friends complicated anecdotes, the resonance of long-extinct soundtracks.
