Born to a Guatemalan father and white American mother in 1989, Gutierrez has a cross-cultural background that influences her art.
Acting as subject, artist, and muse, Gutierrez uses her own body in her work. Interested in gender and relationship fluidity, she employs diverse narratives of intimacy, heritage and feminine ideology. She uses mixed media fusing dance, photography, video, set and costume design to fabricate imagined narratives casting herself in roles such as the ‘pop star’ or ‘super model.’ Affirming LGBTQ beauty in the Latin community, Gutierrez works against the historic representation of trans and gay artists represented as ‘other’.
