Marie Herwald Hermann
Miss You
Great Jones Alley
Marie Herwald Hermann was born in 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark and now lives and works in Chicago. Hermann’s work is informed by the objects of the everyday and draws meaning from the way individuals unconsciously create relationships with the domestic objects present in daily life, the “non-spectacular” objects and the idea of arrangements. Drawn to the transitional periods of the day like dawn and dusk, time spans in which clarity fades into ambiguity, and our perception of individual objects gradually become absorbed into the gathering shadows, until everything merges into the single shadow of night. It is a moment when precision and exactitude succumb to the symbolic, the imaginative and, eventually, the unknown. It is a transition where the fixity of the world starts to slip, becomes more fluid and more open to interpretation and abstraction.
