Hayal Pozanti was born in Istanbul in 1983 and currently lives and works in New York.

Pozanti is an abstract painter who draws inspiration from the growing role of computers and screens in our everyday lives. Her bold, interlocking abstract compositions have recently caught the discerning eye of the art world. From the language of unique shapes she’s invented—a 31-letter “alphabet” from which many of her forms are derived, to the considerations behind the shape of her paintings.

The titles for her works come from the stream of her Twitter feed. They have no literal relationship to the work itself and she only assigns titles after she has completed the work. Her Twitter feed comprises blurbs she comes upon as she reads about topics that interest her. The sculpture paintings like this one, titled “Passive E-Memory” walls, have implied pedestals as if they were actually paintings of abstract sculptures. They could be described as paintings of abstract sculptures that are not yet realized.
