Egan Frantz
Diagram Painting #18 (The Lost Meaning of Classical Architecture), 2015
Sagaponack
Born Norwalk, Connecticut, 1986, Frantz currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Egan Frantz’s sculptures and installations appear minimalist in their composition, but are formed from highly charged, iconic objects that are combined to dramatic effect. He humorously employs unusual objects such as champagne bottles, porcelain statuettes, and marble blocks, forcing the viewer to reconsider the everyday world. His background is in philosophy rather than art, and his practice is influenced by a wide range of theorists, including Freud, Heidegger, Meillassoux, and Kant.
The Diagram Paintings were created with a foldable bicycle and blue paint. All these works use toilet paper as its substrate, reformatting the circle, laid out as a rectangular scroll, with a perforated horizontal line system.
