Dor Guez Munayer is a Jaffa-based artist born in Jerusalem to a family that was Palestinian (mother’s side) and Tunisian Jewish (father’s side). His practice includes photography, video, installations, sculpture, and performance. Pitting personal experiences and memories against official narratives of the past, Guez raises questions about art’s role in re-contextualizing visual and written histories and explores the relationships between narratives and memories of displacement and cultural ambiguities. In the past 20 years, his scholarly and artistic work have focused on archival materials and photographic practices, as well as the mapping traces of at times violent disruptions in the landscape.
