Deming Harriman is a young Miami Beach artist who uses found paper, books, photographs, and other materials to produce her work.
Harriman’s work explores fantasy while she creates her own mythology of empowered Goddesses, spirits, and other mystical beings. Her art is process-based, focusing on arranging color, texture, and design to create a cohesive narrative. Surreal themes influence her work, evoking mystery and whimsy.
The artist says, “In my work I explore fantasy merging with reality, focusing on the power of narrative and setting positive intentions. I am inspired by dreams, myths/archetypes, and mysticism, and how these themes play into the construction of identity. I use my work to represent empowerment through surrealism and story-telling. Each piece has a story or intention instilled into it, and the final work is meant to be a reminder of that intent. I believe working with the element of fantasy has a sense of freedom to it that lets the viewer be truly taken away into another world and I want the world I create for them to one of positivity, connectivity, and enlightenment. Through this I believe we can take the fantasy, our ideal selves, and begin to truly live in that mindset, turning the dream into a reality.”
