Angela Bulloch was born in Ontario, Canada in 1966 and lives and works in Berlin.
Bulloch was first recognized for her “Pixel Boxes,” colored light box installations created in 2003, 2004, and 2005 which re-present television programs and films in their most reduced form: pixels. She also created “Drawing Machines,” from 2011 and 2012, that perform a choreography of lines on the gallery wall that are activated by specially commissioned music and the presence of visitors.
One of Bulloch’s fundamental themes is the integration of the human subject with technology. These newer works – 10 foot tall stacked columns of polyhedra, formed in steel or MDF, were conceived and designed within a digital imaging program. With stylized geometry and a manufactured surface sheen, they reinforce a sense of ‘retro-futurity.’
